Elder L. Tom Perry, Beloved Apostle, Dies at Age 92Elder L. Tom Perry of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles passed away at his home today at about 3:00 p.m. He was 92 years old. He is pictured here at the dedication of the Brigham City Utah Temple.

Labor Day Crowds Patiently Wait for Chance to See Brigham City Utah TempleThe beautiful Brigham City Utah Temple is capturing the attention of tens of thousands of visitors during its public open house. Labor Day weekend saw lines that stretched around the block, as no guest is turned away. The open house continues through Saturday, September 15, before it is closed to the public and prepared for dedication. The dedicatory sessions will be broadcast to Utah congregations on Sunday, September 23.

United States Flag Raised at Brigham City Utah TempleOn Thursday morning at 9:00, the United States flag was raised to the top of the Brigham City Utah Temple flagpole by the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), followed by a moving recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance by the gathered crowd. The temple open house begins tomorrow.

Public Open House Begins Next Week in the "Peach City"The doors of the Brigham City Utah Temple will open to the public next week for a rare opportunity to see inside an LDS temple. Peach trees have been planted on the grounds in honor of the area's roots in fruit growing. "A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them" (Matthew 7:18-20).

Video Invitations Released for Temple Open HousesThe Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has released invitational videos to the open houses of the Brigham City Utah Temple and the Buenos Aires Argentina Temple. Both temples open to the general public next month for a period of several weeks before being dedicated.

Gilding the Monument Signs at the Brigham City Utah TempleWorkers at the Brigham City Utah Temple are carefully applying a sealer to the letters of the monument signs located at the corners of the property, which will later be covered with a beautiful layer of gold leaf. The signs identify the full name of the church and the temple.

First President and Matron of Brigham City Temple CalledPreston J. Checketts, 68, of the Brigham City Utah North Stake has been called as the first president of the Brigham City Utah Temple. President Checketts' wife, Louise B. Checketts, will serve as temple matron. President Checketts presently serves as a stake patriarch and his wife as scribe.

In Brigham City, Trees Go Up; Webcam Comes DownThe webcam that has delivered minute-to-minute construction updates of the Brigham City Utah Temple has been permanently removed, along with the pole that held the device, to make way for a sidewalk. The final shot is still accessible, showing some of the newly planted trees.

Brigham City Sycamore Trees Brought DownOn Tuesday, April 3, six sycamore trees in front of the Brigham City Utah Temple were removed, leaving four trees that match the spacing of the four trees in front of the tabernacle. A new landscape plan is also proposed for the tabernacle, which complements the temple plan.

Brigham City Sycamores Slated for RemovalSix of the ten sycamore trees lining Main Street along the Brigham City Utah Temple block are slated for removal to improve visibility of the temple and to create a balance with the four sycamore trees along the Tabernacle block across the street. Mayor Dennis Fife made the proposal, which was agreeable to the shade tree commission who noted the 160 new trees planned for the temple grounds. The request was subsequently approved by the City Council.

Setting in Stone the Address of the Brigham City Utah TempleConstruction activity at the Brigham City Utah Temple continues going strong where the stairs and sidewalks are being poured, lamp posts are being installed, stone is being applied to exposed cement surfaces, soil is being filled into planters, and numerous trees have arrived in preparation for planting. A significant stone that has been installed is the address marker bearing the words: 250 South. The temple is located at 250 South Main Street.

Making a Celestial Addition to the Brigham City Utah TemplePanes of glass are being installed today for the Celestial Room window of the Brigham City Utah Temple where work continues to progress both inside and out. Large loads of sheetrock have been delivered to the looming white structure with some rooms nearing completion and others just being started. A circular water feature is being installed in front of the main entrance, and beautiful, rustic rock is being attached to exposed cement surfaces.

Decorative Fence Installation at the Brigham City Utah TempleBeautifully detailed wrought iron is being installed at the Brigham City Utah Temple between previously installed fence posts engraved with peach blossoms. All exposed cement is being covered with an attractive rock facing or a carved stucco veneer echoing the pattern in the fence.

Peach Blossom Motif at Brigham City Utah TempleBrigham City's history in fruit growing is celebrated in the design of the Brigham City Utah Temple, which uses a peach blossom motif. Peach growing was initiated in Box Elder County in 1855. The annual peach harvest was so successful that a Peach Days celebration was started in 1904.

Established in 1853, Brigham City is the final resting place of City founder and Church president Lorenzo Snow.

Mormon Corridor Construction and RenovationThe Brigham City Utah Temple, now receiving windows on its main floor, is one of a handful of temples undergoing construction or renovation along the Mormon Corridor. In northern Utah, the Ogden Utah Temple is coming down for extensive renovation as the Brigham City Utah Temple rises. In Western Idaho, the Boise Idaho Temple has closed for remodeling while construction of the Meridian Idaho Temple is awaited. And in the Phoenix metro area, two new temples are underway in Gilbert and in Phoenix proper.

Onlookers Watch Eastern Tower Added to the Brigham City Utah TempleBrigham City residents gathered with eager anticipation today as the eastern tower of the Brigham City Utah Temple was hoisted into place, bringing closer the installation of the angel Moroni statue—a widely recognized symbol of the Church. On the west side of the building, a slightly shorter tower will also be installed. Packer, president of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles and a native of Brigham City, presided over the services and unveiled a beautiful architectural rendering of the building, largely inspired by the Salt Lake Temple. The Brigham City temple will stand on Main Street directly across from the historic Box Elder Tabernacle.

Applied Geotechnical Engineering Consultants gathered core samples from the site earlier this month.
